"We are Children of God" Project

Ms. Gelasco's Kindergarten

The students first transformed our communication board into a bulletin board to display their work.

They then made letters to say "We are God's children".  They decorated in the letters with symbols and pictures that reminded them of God.

The children then all drew self portraits of themselves and we posted them on the bulletin board.

At conference time, the children were very proud to show their parents that they are children of God.

These are two other bulletin boards in our hallway:

The kindergarten class reflected on what reminds them of God...

When I think of God I see a little girl playing in the park, and some flowers under the sun.

Walking to church with my dad reminds me of God.  A cross reminds me of God.  The flag reminds me of Jesus.  Flowers and trees remind me of God.

When I think of God, I think of beautiful things-Jesus, flowers, trees, rivers, grass, friends and love.

Throughout our school hallways, we have these beautiful posters with Biblical verses.

As part of the day, we read many stories that reflected on our core values in Edmonton Catholic and were about our faith.

Included as part of our collection were:

  • "Where Does God Live", by Holly Bea
  • "Noah's Ark", by Georgie Adams
  • A few read aloud bible stories "Daniel in the Lion's Den", "Moses in Egypt", "David and Goliath" all illustrated by Jan Lewis.
  • "The Tale of Three Trees", retold by Angela Elwell Hunt
  • "Our Father", Mary Joslin
  • As well as many books written by Max Lucado
  • Children's Bible Stories

The students enjoyed laying down on the carpet with their eyes closed as we read stories from the Bible and reflected.
