Jesus' Life

A Tic-Tac-Toe Activity

with Mrs. Cackett's Grade Ones

Please decide on one of the stories that you would like to read about Jesus' Life. Then do the activity that matches.

John Baptizes Jesus Look at your baptism picture.  Write about how you felt.  Who was there? Zacchaeus

Make a triorama of the scene.  On the back write who was in the story.

Lunch for 5,000

Make one of the banners for loaves and fish.

Jesus Loves Children

Draw a picture of Jesus and children.  What would he be saying to them.  Do the puzzle.

Jesus Chooses Twelve Helpers  Name 12 of your friends.  What makes them so special. Make a picture of Jesus and his friends at the last supper. Jesus Walks on Water

Jesus asks us to trust God.  Make a "Trust" banner.

Jesus is our Good Shepherd

Make a modeling clay  picture of sheep and Jesus on a small paper plate.

Jesus is Tempted

How would you feel if you didn't eat for 40 days?  If he was supposed to eat 3 times a day, how many meals did he miss?

Jesus growing up

Make a Venn Diagram of how your life is the same and different as Jesus' life as a boy.

This Tic-Tac-Toe activity was developed for my Grade Ones to learn a little about Jesus' life and some of the miracles that He performed.  There are nine different activities that the children can choose from. They can do three to make a row, but I have found that they love doing all of them.  I used an easy to read bible, there are many different ones available.  The procedure is  as follows:

1. Buddy read the story. Buddy read is a system that we have already in place. First they read together, second "A" reads first page, "B" reads second page, third "B" reads first page, "A" reads second page, and last of all they both read together.

2. The children tell me what their story was about.

3.  The children can do the activity.

4.  They start a new activity after they check with me.  If they have done an art type of activity first, they have to do a writing activity.

Materials and directions needed for each Centre

John Baptizes Jesus The children brought baptism or baby pictures.  On writing paper they answer the questions about their baptism.

Zacchaeus  Manila tag 12"x12" folded diagonally in quarters, cut one fold to the centre.  Using markers, glue, extra paper, and string they makes a triorama of Zacchaeus' story.  We use a string so that Zacchaeus can go up and down the tree.  See the picture.

Lunch for 5,000  The children made a banner using construction paper, tracers of fish and glue.

Jesus Chooses Twelve Helpers   The children write their list of friends on paper.  Then they made a collage of the last supper using construction paper, wallpaper etc.

Jesus Walks on Water  The students used art paper (18"x6"), pastels and washes to make a Resist "TRUST" banner.

Jesus is our Shepherd  Using small paper plates as a frame they uses modeling clay to make the picture of Jesus and the Shepherds.  I had Barbara Reid's book Two by Two available to give them ideas on how to do the clay art.

Jesus is Tempted The activity to find how many meals Jesus missed was too challenging for some so they drew pictures of Jesus being tempted.  The students used blank paper for either activity.

Jesus Growing Up I made an intersecting Venn diagram for them to write the similarities and differences.

The children looked forward to these Centres and learned about the life of Christ.
